Welcome to French Grits. My name is Julia Darling, and I’m so glad you’re here!
This blog is dedicated to sharing my passions for cooking and the food scene in the American South, peppered with French joie de vivre. Growing up, my family spent four years living in Brussels, Belgium. The experience of living abroad at a young age left a lasting impression on my life and appetite for food. I was exposed to farmers’ markets in the Grand Place, Neuhaus chocolates, gaufres de Liège, and one of my favorite cities – Paris, France.
Landing back in the US, Memphis, TN, became home – another region of the world with a strong food culture and a lot of soul. We Memphians are proud of our BBQ! Since then, I’ve lived in Chicago, Nashville, California, Louisville and now the Lake Norman area of North Carolina (just north of Charlotte). My husband and I hope to plant some roots here with our three young kids.
Enjoying a hot cup of coffee is my morning ritual, and I love an apéritif in the afternoon. When I’m not scrubbing child planted food stains off of my clothes, I try to keep it chic as I navigate the waters of aging with grace.
