Food for Thought: Episode 2

When I read the news each day about the events unfolding in Ukraine, my heart breaks for all of those affected - especially families and children. I feel helpless and unsure of what to do. How can I make a difference from so far away?  But I try to remember that it is better to do something than nothing at all. Find a way that you feel best turns your compassion into action, even if it’s simply supporting one of the many wonderful non-profit organizations on the front lines providing humanitarian aid to those in need.

If there are two things I’m particularly passionate about, it is my family and food. World Central Kitchen (WCK) provides fresh meals daily to Ukranians fleeing their home and those that remain in the country. Save the Children focuses on providing food, water, hygiene kits and psychological support to children and their families caught in the middle of this crisis.

As per usual, spring is being her fickle self. A day of sunshine and seventy degree weather is followed by rain and a twenty degree drop in the temperature. Are we eating popsicles on the patio today or donning a sweater and sipping hot tea all afternoon? Who’s to say?

This weekend my mother and father-in-law will be visiting from Michigan, and later next week my best friend from high school (we go waaay back) will be in town with her family! We each have three kids, all under the age of 8, and this will be the first time they’ve met each other.

Whatever your plans may be this weekend, I hope you have a good one! And if you have a moment, here’s a little “Food for Thought” to enjoy with your weekend coffee or cocktail.

Eater does a short documentary series on chefs called YesChef. This one features Chef Edward Lee in Louisville, KY. We moved to North Carolina from Louisville last year, and watching this video brings back memories of how much we loved living there. I think you’ll enjoy watching.
